We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated person to join our growing team in the Endoscopy Unit as Endoscopy Deputy Lead Nurse at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust.
This is an exciting opportunity for a Band 7 registered nurse to join our specialist Endoscopy team. The post holder will need to have experience at a Band 6 level within an acute setting and have a keen interest in Endoscopy.
You will need to have experience of the endoscopy service in order to lead the department.
Your role will involve ensuring that staff deliver a patient-centred, clinically effective, proactive and dynamic service.
Main duties of the job
The post holder carries continuing responsibility throughout the 24 hour period for the assessment and delivery of care for patients in the Endoscopy Unit. They are also accountable for resource management of the area including budgets, capacity and patient pathways.
Provide excellent standards of care and expertise, both in delivering direct patient care and in the support of other staff caring for the higher needs and dependency of our patients.
To supervise, manage and teach other nursing and non-nursing staff, acting as an excellent clinical role model and team leader to ensure quality care is delivered.
The post holder will have responsibility for the delivery and monitoring of high standards of nursing care to all patients on the ward in accordance with relevant evidence-based professional practice and Trust policies.
The post holder will provide clinical and managerial leadership to the Endoscopy department. The role involves deputising for the Endoscopy Operational Manager in their absence.

Key Responsibilities:
* To possess a high level of professional knowledge of endoscopic practices enabling the safe management of patient care within the department.
* To provide professional leadership, direction and support to all department staff, users, consultants, their teams and directorate management.
* To help implement and keep updated the GRS and JAG standards throughout Endoscopy.
* To act as a role model and clinical expert within the Gastroenterology specialty within the Trust and outside it.
* To co-ordinate the admission and investigation of patients requiring endoscopic investigation.
* To ensure that clinical practice and care is underpinned by evidence-based practice where applicable and ensure the application of research into clinical practice.
Communication
* To provide support and counselling to patients and their careers and to staff members.
* To develop and maintain key working relationships with Gastroenterologists, GI surgeons, GI Clinical Nurse Specialists, Nutrition Nurse Specialist, Endoscopy Unit Manager, Divisional Manager, Matron and staff.
* To communicate effectively verbally and via formal documentation and electronic sources, with all members of the nursing, multidisciplinary team, patients, and their relatives and discuss complex issues to ensure patients receive optimum care.
* To communicate daily face to face and on the telephone with administration and clerical staff and ward staff to ensure continuity of care.
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse First Level
* Documented evidence of CPD
* ENB 998 or equivalent
* Nursing degree or working towards
* Management or Leadership Qualification or willing to work towards
Experience
* Experience of working as an Endoscopy Nurse at Band 6 for a minimum of 1 year
* Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team at a senior level
* Knowledge and understanding of JAG, GIN and GRS accreditation requirements
* Clinical expertise within speciality
* Experience of audit and research
* Experience of preparing agendas and chairing departmental meetings
Skills
* Able to organise and prioritise workload
* Experience of producing and maintaining nursing rosters
* Time management and prioritisation skills
* Able to work autonomously
* Able to present and analyse complex data
* Venepuncture and cannulation skills
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
