We are looking to recruit a flexible, self-motivated and hard-working person to join our busy dispensing team. The applicant must hold a recognised dispenser qualification (NVQ level 2 or equivalent), have excellent attention to detail and ideally will have experience of working in a busy dispensary or pharmacy. You will form part of a busy team consisting of dispensers and clerks, working alongside our clinical and administrative practice team to provide the best service for our patients.
Main duties of the job
Job Summary
* To dispense medications accurately and efficiently to our patients.
* To order and manage stock.
* Maintain full and accurate records on the computer system.
* To assist with other general day to day housekeeping and administrative duties that play an integral part in managing dispensing workloads accurately and safely and ensuring the smooth running of our dispensary.
* Deal with patient enquiries face to face and by telephone - excellent customer service skills are essential.

This job description outlines the role of the dispenser together with the duties required of this position. Dispensers will have regular contact with patients and are required to be professional, courteous and understanding to their needs. Excellent communication skills are essential as liaising effectively with other health professionals and colleagues is a major part of this role.
Duties:
1. Dispensing Requirements
Dispense acute prescriptions to patients.
Dispense repeat prescriptions to patients.
Dispense drugs to patients with instructions on how to take the medication.
Check and pack ready for collection by patients or their representatives.
Prepare orders for machine collection and be competent in loading the dispensing machine and entering data on to the software.
Where a drug requested is not shown as a repeat prescription liaise with a doctor.
Deal with patient queries and refer to a doctor where necessary.
Record and dispense private prescriptions as required.
Record and account for dispensary income, including cash and prescriptions. Administer float and prepare cash for banking.
Send off monthly scripts to the Prescriptions Pricing Authority according to dispensary protocol.
Ensure that drugs, including controlled drugs and refrigerated items are stored according to protocol.
Carry out appropriate administration of paperwork in line with dispensary protocols.
1. Computer Records
Accurately update computer records (SystmOne) with appropriate dispensing information.
1. Stock Control
Order a daily delivery of drugs from wholesaler via computer, keeping stock to an agreed level. Check drug order when received and put new stock on shelves with recent delivery at the back.
Be aware of expiry dates and keep record of those close to expiry, particularly in the controlled drug cupboard.
Be proactive in regularly checking dates and rotating stock to minimise wastage.
Keep a record of all controlled drugs received and dispensed, maintaining the locked cupboard as required by law.
Liaise with practice nurses over treatment room stock control, vaccines and dressings etc, ordering these as needed.
Dispose of drugs, out of date or returned by patients as required.
1. Keep the dispensary clean and tidy.
5. Undertake training as required.
6. Any other duties which may from time to time be delegated.
