PhD Nutrition is a premium active-nutrition brand targeting the active lifestyle community; fuelled by science our products help maximise performance, whether this is building strength, getting leaner, or everyday wellness. PhD brand ambassadors include leading strength and endurance athlete Ross Edgley.
The two brands sell through the Company's phd.com and scienceinsport.com digital platforms, third-party online sites, including Amazon, and extensive retail distribution in the UK and internationally.
In 2022 the company opened a state of the art 160,000 square foot manufacturing and logistics facility in Blackburn, Lancashire. Providing a significant advantage in product costs and customer response time, allowing Science in Sport to have the highest standards of quality.
Science in Sport is Performance Solutions partner to Ineos Grenadiers cycling team, Tottenham Hotspur, New York City and OGC Nice football clubs, in addition to being the Official Nutrition Partner to the Milwaukee Bucks, 2021 National Basketball Association Champions and in 2023, winner of the women’s marathon at the 2022 World Athletics Championships, Gotytom Gebreslase.
The Role
* Job Type: FTC Maternity Leave cover - 12 months
* Salary: £25,000 per annum
* Working Hours: Monday – Friday, 9:00am – 5:30pm

The work - Your 4 most important responsibilities
* Bench-top sample preparation of ready-to-mix powder blends, gels and sports nutrition bars
* Competitor analysis and suppliers prospecting
* Organizing, conducting and analysing product & ingredients taste panels
* Support NPD team with flavour application, product formulation and product analytical testing.
Accountability – what you are responsible for delivering
* Support for bench-top sample preparation for commercial product launches, as well as Supply Chain, Technical, and Elite Team led requests for samples and/or existing formulation changes
* Product taste panel management for all team projects
* Competitor product analysis and recommendations for all team projects
* Online supplier prospecting – analysing food expo exhibitor lists and presenting recommendations to the team
Capability - the skills and behaviours required to do this job well
* Degree in Nutritional Science, Food Technology or a related field.
* Experience of working in a life science laboratory or food environment.
* Fast learner with excellent attention to detail, numeracy, and IT skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
* Great interpersonal skills – enthusiastic self-starter with good communication skills.
* Strong passion for sport, fitness, and supplements.
Performance – how you will know you are doing a great job
* Samples made timely, following GMP standards and appropriate record keeping
* Taste panel managed professionally to a high food hygiene standard, accurately capturing actionable data to support decision making
* In-depth competitor product analyses produced, capturing pricing, formulation details, flavour mix and other details – data presented alongside recommendations for the team
* First port of call for Supply Chain, Technical, and Elite’s bench-top sample requests – understands the nature of the request, manages expectations well and informs NPD team proactively
Specific metrics will be set when in role and will be reviewed and built upon regularly. Alongside this, you will be supported with a personal performance plan that will enable you to continue improving your own performance and impact.

* Travel Requirements: This role requires commuting to the site at least three times a week. Due to limited public transport options, personal transport is highly desirable.
