About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join the SEND unit of a secondary school located in Plymouth, Devon. The successful candidate will be a key member of the team, providing support to students with a range of special educational needs and disabilities. This role is ideal for an individual passionate about making a positive difference in the educational experiences of young people.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Work collaboratively with the SEND Coordinator, teachers, and other support staff to identify the individual needs of students with SEND.
2. Assist in the planning and delivery of tailored educational activities and interventions.
3. Provide in-class support to students, adapting to different learning styles and ensuring an inclusive learning environment.
4. Facilitate small group work and one-to-one sessions to support students' academic progress and personal development.
5. Monitor and track students' progress, providing feedback to teachers.
6. Encourage positive social interactions and assist with the development of communication and life skills.
7. Aid students with physical needs, including mobility and the use of specialist equipment if required.
8. Foster a nurturing and supportive atmosphere that promotes student well-being and self-esteem.
9. Collaborate with parents, carers, and external agencies where necessary to ensure a cohesive approach to the students' education and well-being.
10. Contribute to maintaining a safe and organised learning environment, adhering to school policies and procedures.
11. Engage in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge relating to SEND.
Requirements:
1. Experience working with children or young people, particularly in a SEND setting, is highly desirable.
2. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, staff, and parents.
3. A patient, caring, and resilient personality, capable of handling challenges with sensitivity.
4. Good literacy, numeracy, and ICT skills to support a range of learning activities.
5. A solid understanding of safeguarding practices within an educational setting.
