THE ROLE
BBC Studios is a world-renowned content studio and channels & streaming business, powered by British creativity, with a reach that touches audiences in every corner of the globe.
The Graphic Design team supporting one of the UK’s most loved soaps, EastEnders, is looking for an experienced drama Graphic Designer to join their team on a continuing basis.
From designing posters for the square to hand drawing banners for the Vic, the Graphic Designer helps bring Walford to life. The successful candidate will have advanced technical and free-hand skills and be able to work to specific briefs at pace.
You will have worked on a long-running drama previously, and have expert knowledge and understanding of clearances. You will have experience of managing requests from multiple departments simultaneously and be able to prioritise tasks; ensuring relationships and expectations are managed in a positive but assertive manner.
The Graphic Designer is responsible for a team of assistants and needs to be able to confidently delegate duties. You will have previous experience of mentoring or managing junior team members and enjoy supporting them to develop their skills.
This role is based at Elstree Studios 5 days per week.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Design and produce content and artwork to high creative and editorial standards with adherence to BBC guidelines.
2. Produce distinctive content on a variety of platforms including Adobe Creative Cloud, as well as using technical and freehand drawing and painting skills.
3. Develop and create assets such as signage, posters, artwork, packaging, books, newspapers, logos and branding.
4. Work collaboratively with multiple departments and positively manage relationships, prioritising tasks and ensuring delivery within agreed timelines.
5. Advise on clearance and rights and ensure all material produced and broadcast is legally compliant.
6. Ensure content reflects our diverse audiences and be accountable for the usability and accessibility of design deliveries for the broadest possible cross-section of users.
7. Keep up to date with emerging industry trends.
8. Ensure high levels of accuracy and creativity.
WHAT DOES IT TAKE?
1. Experience of working as a Graphic Designer on a long-running drama series.
2. Portfolio evidence of design work and creative flair.
3. Advanced Adobe Creative Cloud skills – Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
4. Evidence of a passion and interest in graphic design for drama and ideas and opinions about how we can continue to strive for high standards and quality.
5. Evidence of a wider awareness of latest design trends and technological developments.
6. Ability to deliver content via a variety of methods including technical drawing, computer, freehand painting and drawing, and examples of previous work.
7. Experience of communicating design decisions with a diverse range of people; evidence of successfully collaborating and sharing your ideas.
8. Experience of successfully delivering to multiple teams with various deadlines, and prioritising tasks.
9. Expert knowledge and understanding of clearance and how it is used for Graphic Design content.
10. Experience of mentoring or managing junior team members and supporting their development.
11. Understanding of the importance of the BBC's values in accuracy and impartiality.
12. Knowledge and passion for Continuing Dramas, especially EastEnders.
PACKAGE DESCRIPTION
Contract: Continuing
Salary range: £50,000 - £53,609 + London Weighting @ £5319
Preferred start date: 3rd March
