My Client is recruiting for a Senior Electrical Engineer in the Water Sector.
Locations considered: Hybrid working from Brighouse, Scotland (nr Glasgow), Durham, Yorkshire, Chorley, Warrington, Derby, Birmingham, and Coventry.
Principal and other Engineer levels also considered.
A Senior Electrical Engineer will be responsible for the delivery of the EICA design content of water industry projects, whilst leading a multi-disciplinary design team. Operating under hybrid working arrangements, much of your time will be spent working in your own space, though we do require that you are available to work in person with the other discipline team members in your assigned office as and when the situation dictates. Generally, this will be in the order of 2/3 days per week.
Projects will typically include:
1. Water and wastewater infrastructure and non-infrastructure works design.
This will include design delivery at all stages, from feasibility and optioneering through to detailed designs for construction, determining the best solutions for pumping stations, treatment works, mechanical screening, chemical dosing systems, sludge handling systems, etc., and the production of detailed mechanical design packages for construction.
Duties will typically include:
1. Delivery, management, and co-ordination of design outputs produced by the local team and engineers from other water design offices.
2. Issuing outputs either internally or to clients to agreed time, cost, and quality metrics.
3. Developing effective concept design solutions that are consistent with the project brief.
4. Undertaking a wide range of design work on all aspects of the functions design and maintenance.
5. Implementing effective, value for money, and innovative design solutions to meet technical and project requirements.
6. Maintaining high technical standards, consistent with the project brief.
7. Processing projects through preliminary and detailed design with particular emphasis on client requirements and innovation.
8. Liaising with clients and ensuring their requirements are effectively communicated to the team.
9. Checking and approving engineering designs, calculations, and overseeing drawing production.
10. Checking and approving contract documents and scheme cost estimates.
11. Checking and approving technical documents and reports and assisting in the preparation of expressions of interest and tenders.
12. Ensuring compliance with relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation, particularly the CDM regulations.
13. Management of a team of engineers including senior engineers, engineers, assistants, senior technicians, technicians, and graduate engineers.
14. Responding to queries from, and liaising with, site construction teams.
15. Maintaining a strong focused client relationship.
16. Leading on contract preparation together with project planning and programming.
17. Managing projects, resources, and budgets.
18. Preparation of cost estimates and fees.
19. Effective management and response of project-related correspondence.
20. Ensuring compliance with the integrated management system and assisting in its development.
21. Leading in the preparation of bids.
22. Completing performance appraisals for any assigned staff and providing development opportunities for them.
23. Being aware of new technologies, industry, and process innovation that can be used on projects.
24. Leading technical roles for large and complex projects, possibly leading multiple design teams.
25. Able to take on significant elements of the design, working on their own initiative, with minimal supervision.
26. Project management of a number of complex projects to time, cost, and quality working within a multi-disciplinary design team environment to obtain, analyze information, and report on findings.
Experience and Qualifications:
1. Ability to produce, check and approve detailed electrical design outputs for complex plant.
2. Degree/HNC/HND or similar in Electrical Engineering or similar.
3. An excellent working knowledge of sewage and clean water processes.
4. The ability to develop good practical engineering solutions.
5. The ability to think outside of what has been considered to give Company the edge in providing solutions.
6. Good knowledge of civil and mechanical works would be beneficial.
7. Be able to produce bottom-up cost estimates.
8. To be able to lead numerous projects simultaneously.
9. A team player and communicator who can manage a design from start to finish including site support to our project managers and construction team whilst working on his or her own initiative.
10. Willing to travel with occasional overnight stays.
11. Must have a driving license.
12. Strong knowledge of BS7671 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
13. Ability to produce electrical and instrumentation design drawings and specifications.
