Job summary An opportunity has arisen to work as a member of the East Kent Ophthalmic team which has 47 members of staff supporting outpatient ophthalmology clinics across 6 different hospital sites. We are a friendly, hardworking and supportive team who get together virtually once a month for a team meeting. We are looking to recruit 1 full time vacancy for 37.5 Hours per week. The post will involve general patient welfare in addition to specific investigative techniques of patients attending a range of general and specialist ophthalmic clinics. Our clinics generally run Monday to Friday between 8am and 8pm but at some sites we also have evening and weekend clinics. The position will initially be a Band 2 but once the criteria has been met in line with the competency matrix then the applicant will progress to Band 3. There will be further opportunities to develop both academically and professionally within the team. We offer a full package of benefits, including a car lease Main duties of the job General Ophthalmic Clinics Assessment of visual acuity of patients of varied ages and literate ability using conventional Snellen Chart and computerised tests. Instillation of eye drops as prescribed by the Doctor or protocol to prepare the patient for further ophthalmic examination. Assist transfer of patients of limited mobility to examination chair and support ophthalmologist during assessment as necessary. Ensure all medical notes are present and in order prior to the appointment. Contribute towards the smooth running of the clinic by being alert to waiting patients and ensuring clinics are kept to time as far as is possible. Giving advice to patients as instructed by senior staff or by ophthalmologist.
