This post offers an exciting and new opportunity to join University Hospitals Plymouth Maternity Service as a Band 3 Infant Feeding Support Worker to assist the multi-professional team in the provision of high-quality infant feeding and tongue tie service.
The post holder will provide an effective and compassionate family-centred maternity service; to ensure optimal care for pregnant people, women, their babies and their families. The post holder will provide this care within patients' homes, clinic and inpatient environments.
They will also provide support and education to Maternity Support Workers and other colleagues, from initial recruitment, during induction and ongoing development. Be a role model in high standards of clinical practice and leadership; ensuring that maternity support workers also provide a high standard of practice which is based on current evidence, guidelines and policies. Assist in the implementation of new guidelines and initiatives from both local and national requirements across all areas of maternity services. You will also be required to have a visible presence in the clinical environment and provide one-to-one support and education for staff members working within maternity.
Main duties of the job
Supporting the setup of the new neonatal tongue tie service, the candidate will provide an effective and compassionate family-centred maternity service; to ensure optimal care for women, their babies and their families. You will be providing support and education to members of the multi-disciplinary team. Implement new guidelines and initiatives from both local and national requirements across all areas of maternity services. Work with individual parents, families and in group settings throughout the pregnancy and the postnatal period. The post holder will provide information about infant feeding and support to birthing parents, partners, and their babies before and after the birth in a range of settings, including inpatient facilities, home, and clinics. The post holder will work with minimal supervision to undertake a range of tasks involving promoting and supporting responsive feeding in line with national and local guidelines and public health priorities. Working proactively using a partnership approach to promote health and contribute to tackling health inequalities within the level of competencies required for the post. The post holder will provide psychological and emotional care and support. The post holder will provide appropriate information related to infant feeding and may signpost to other organisations. They will provide health promotion and education either in a one-to-one or group format, including antenatal classes.

Knowledge and Experience
* Evidence of breastfeeding support training.
* Evidence of providing feeding support to families.
* Knowledge of basic parenting skills.
* Ability to investigate information, plan what to do and how to do it.
* Able to generate and explore ideas and problem solve.
* Able to reflect and learn from different situations.
* To prioritize workload, recognizing own limitations and when to seek assistance.
* Health education and health promotion experience.
* Evidence of working in a healthcare setting.
* Knowledge of the UNICEF BFI accreditation standards.
Qualifications
* GCSE Maths (A-C) or equivalent.
* GCSE English (A-C) or equivalent.
* NVQ/QCF level 3 Health and Social care or equivalent experience.
* Evidence of working in a customer care setting.
* Care certificate.
* UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative 2-day breastfeeding and relationship building training or equivalent.
* Extended IT skills.
