About the role
We are currently looking for a Water Quality Scientist to join our busy Water Quality team. The team are responsible for ensuring we can demonstrate that Essex & Suffolk meets our regulatory requirements for drinking water quality.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the protection of public health and will involve providing technical expertise and advice to key internal and external customers. To do this the candidate will also have to develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including local health authorities and the Drinking Water Inspectorate.
You’ll be responsible for assessing the risk to public health for planned and reactive work and as a technical expert you’ll investigate a range of matters affecting water quality.
This will require you to prepare technical reports and carry out technical audits of water treatment processes and network assets.
We will expect you to collate and interpret data to help identify areas for improvement and assess performance. The successful candidate will also be responsible for all water quality issues within a defined geographic area, the development and promotion of best practice with reference to Water Quality and integration of appropriate legislation.
You’ll also be required to participate in a standby rota, providing support and advice on any water quality matters.
About you
This is a wide ranging; varied role and you will be required to show an adaptable approach to be able to prioritise your workload. We’re looking for someone with experience of regulations and risk assessment, with a degree in a relevant scientific subject.
Knowledge of drinking water regulations, water treatment and distribution systems would be beneficial.
You’ll have proven experience consulting and influencing stakeholders and will work well in pressurised situations. Experience of presenting to large groups is desirable as the successful candidate will be required to do this as part of their role.
Being comfortable writing clear and concise reports is also essential as well as being able to communicate with people on all levels.
