Your role:
We are looking for a new Assistant News Editor to help grow our award-winning operation. This is a rare opportunity for the right applicant to join The Sun’s news desk.
Day to day you will:
1. Run the biggest news stories of the day and oversee major breaking news.
2. Help develop The Sun Online's off-diary operation and improve the quality and quantity of our original content.
3. Manage and run reporters on the ground going after the biggest stories of the day, as well as seeing tips through to finished stories.
4. Liaise with agencies and freelancers to make sure our coverage stays ahead of the competition.
5. Help train and develop our talented young reporters and get the most out of them.
6. Assist the news editor with management of the team.
7. Lead the news operation as and when required, including at nights and weekends when necessary.
What we are looking for from you:
1. Experience working at national newsdesk level with a track record of delivering exclusives.
2. Experience of running multiple reporters on the ground at once.
3. Knowledge of and experience in recognised search tools.
4. Must have experience of leading news operations on occasion.
5. Solid contacts with agencies and freelancers around the UK and internationally.
6. Must have flair and an ability to spot the hidden potential in stories.
7. Unflappable under pressure and delivers work at a consistently high standard.
8. Positive attitude and good team player.
9. Can demonstrate an understanding of The Sun brand, both print and digital.
10. Flexibility to work shift patterns across 7 days.
