About the role We are recruiting for an Engagement Coordinator, to lead on the delivery of community engagement in our Wales & South West region. The programme’s aim is to engage and connect with communities living alongside our waterways and support the development and delivery of our participatory campaigns, which provide opportunities for connection with nature, improved physical activity and a variety of health and wellbeing activities. You will be overseeing a large team of volunteers to deliver a programme of regional events and activities, as well as working with local stakeholders and communities to support their ambitions. You will work on a series of paid events alongside our programme of free community activities, which will enable the charity to continue delivering free and accessible opportunities to those who need it most. The purpose of the Engagement Coordinator role is to engage and connect with communities alongside the canals in these areas. By adopting a place-based approach and working in partnership with others, you will achieve a transformation that will materially change patterns of use and perceptions of communities living near these canals to make the local waterway relevant to them and build community ownership so that the momentum is sustained, and wellbeing benefits are realised. Location and coverage You will be based from home, with access to our office hubs or yards, however regular travel and working at different locations is essential, and we expect that you will be working on site for an average of three days a week, but this varies throughout the year depending on the season. Focus areas will be on the Kennet & Avon Canal, Gloucestershire & Sharpness Canal, Bridgwater & Taunton, and Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal. Work experience: • Experience of working within a community setting • Experience of project management, delivery, reporting and evaluation • Experience of delivering community and volunteering projects with a heritage, environment, health & wellbeing and/or arts focus. • Experience of developing and managing volunteer groups and opportunities, and delivering volunteer-led activities • Proven ability to be able to build strong relationships and collaborate with partner organisations, communities and key stakeholders to delivery mutual benefits and co-designed projects and programmes • Experience of sourcing and coordinating social action/volunteer projects • Comprehensive working knowledge of issues relating to working with young people or vulnerable people including safeguarding • Experience of working within the Third Sector/Voluntary organisations is desirable • Experience of securing funding or grants for community projects is desirable Skills: • Ability to work or experience of working effectively with a diverse group of people, including minority or marginalised or underrepresented communities • Excellent project management skills including budget management and control • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills • High levels of energy and commitment • Ability and willingness to work evenings / weekends as required • Ability to work well under pressure, be motivated and self-managed Full UK driving license is essential.
