HEALTH & SAFETY MANAGER
LOCATION: BRAINTREE, ESSEX (with regular travel throughout London, East Anglia and the South East)
SALARY: Circa £55,000 (depending on experience) plus £6,000 car allowance per annum. JPJ flexible benefits package and life assurance available after 6 months service.
JPJ are a specialist sub-contractor within the building envelope market in construction involved in the design, manufacture and installation of windows, doors, curtain walling, architectural glass and metal work. We have built a great reputation in the industry based on hard work and loyalty and we work for many Tier 1 Main Contractors (Willmott Dixon, Laing O’Rourke, Morgan Sindall to name a few).
We are now looking for a replacement full-time Health & Safety Manager on a permanent basis. This is a standalone role reporting directly to the JPJ Board of Directors and supporting a workforce of approx. 80 personnel, comprising of factory, construction site and office workers. You would also provide Health & Safety support in relation to sub-contractors working on our projects.
Main duties:
1. Advise and manage all the health and safety matters relating to the company ensuring its compliance with its statutory obligations. This will include preparing, reviewing, and updating existing company policies.
2. Preparing method statements and risk assessments templates for both construction projects and factory operations.
3. Assist others in completing method statements and risk assessments for both construction projects and factory operations.
4. Undertake health and safety related site audits (at a minimum in line with our contractual requirements).
5. Attend site meetings as required.
6. Provide health and safety advice and information at the pre-construction phase of projects, including the completion of PQQs and other associated documents.
7. Ensure all employees are appropriately trained and competent in their role.
8. Ensure overall safety management of sub-contractors.
9. Accident and near-miss reporting and investigation.
This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated individual who is able to effectively communicate and influence at all levels of the business.
This is a very much hands-on role and we are looking for someone that is happy to undertake a range of duties and is able to self-manage their own time. You will work closely with all areas of the business, but in particular will need to form a good working relationship with our project managers to ensure all construction projects are fully supported in relation to H&S. Our projects typically range in value from £10k - £5m and turnover is expected to be circa £20m in 2025.
About you:
You must have NEBOSH general or construction certificate and a background in construction health and safety. A degree in a relevant health and safety discipline would be advantageous.
Membership of IOSH is essential at Technical level or above.
Must have a valid CSCS card.
A full UK driving licence is essential as this role involves regular travel throughout the South of England (typically East Anglia and London). It is expected that your time would be split between site and the office.
