Staffordshire Archives and Heritage are looking for an experienced collection specialist to take a leadership role in the service.
The Collections Manager is responsible for leading the management and development of the archive, museum and library collections held by the service. This is an exciting time for the Archives and Heritage Service which has recently opened the Staffordshire History Centre in Stafford, an £8.7m project funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Staffordshire County Council and other funders. This new venue is the home of the service and showcases our collections through our exhibition space as well as providing a dedicated research room, events, and learning sessions.
This permanent role will be based at the History Centre as well as working at the museum stores also in Stafford. Flexible working is available in this role and some evening and weekend working will be required.
Main Responsibility
As a key member of the management team you will:
* be the lead for delivery of the History Centre collections and interpretation plans including: negotiations for the deposit of new collections to ensure our holdings are inclusive
* manage the exhibitions programme
* review and develop policies
* manage systems to catalogue and preserve both analogue and digital collections
You will also manage a small team and have responsibility for the collections budget and lead on developing funding bids for the enhancement of collection care and access.
The Ideal Candidate
You will have:
* a postgraduate qualification in archive administration or museum and gallery studies or equivalent demonstrable experience.
* experience of working in an archive or museum at a professional level.
* familiarity with archive, museum and digital preservation collections systems is essential.
* some knowledge of the museum and archive accreditation schemes would also be beneficial.
Most importantly we are looking for an inclusive leader to build a team who can work effectively together to deliver the collections plan.
