Locum Criminal and Enforcement Lawyer - Local Authority, Permanent Opportunity
Location: Chelmsford (Hybrid Working)
Salary: £47,000 to £55,800 per annum + benefits
We are recruiting for a Criminal and Enforcement Lawyer on behalf of a forward-thinking Local Authority. This position offers a competitive salary, generous benefits, and flexible hybrid working arrangements with 2-3 days per week in the office.
Key Responsibilities:
* Advising on criminal law and enforcement matters, including fraud, consumer protection, planning, environmental enforcement, and highways
* Drafting charges, serving formal enforcement notices, and advising at all stages of criminal investigations
* Acting as a reviewing lawyer and managing cases from pre-charge to sentencing
* Conducting advocacy in Magistrates' Courts or instructing counsel where necessary
* Building strong working relationships with internal and external partners to deliver high-quality service
About You:
* Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive with at least 2 years PQE in criminal and enforcement matters (lawyers with less PQE may be considered)
* Strong understanding of relevant legislation and proven ability to manage a varied caseload
* Advocacy experience in Magistrates' Court is desirable but not essential
* Excellent communication skills and ability to provide clear, concise legal advice
