Job overview
* To provide professional and clinical leadership within the nursing team.
* To support the role of the Senior Charge Nurse in the implementation of a strategic development plan for nursing and nurse-led services within the department.
* To act as a resource for nursing education and clinical development within the service.
* To be actively involved and supportive of Senior Nursing staff in the development and implementation of a programme of nursing audit and research within the department.
* To provide autonomous nursing care to meet the HIV and sexual health needs of patients attending the Caldecot Centre.
Main duties of the job
* To be accountable for their own practice, to sustain and improve knowledge and professional competence.
* To obtain a detailed and comprehensive patient history, undertake relevant examination and investigations.
* To request and interpret tests as required within departmental guidelines.
* To provide intermediate level, autonomous nursing care to patients who have stable Human Immunodeficiency Virus and liaise with other members of the MDT to bridge complex psycho-social needs.
* To provide sexual health care – including diagnosis, treatment of STI’s and related conditions.
* To ensure patients have consistent access to their antiretroviral medication and liaise effectively with medical prescribers and pharmacy to ensure this need is met.
* To monitor the effectiveness of care and treatment through follow up as required (including partner notification) according to departmental guidelines and to liaise with Sexual health Intervention and Prevention (SHIP) team as appropriate.
* To maintain accurate clinical records in accordance with NMC, Trust and medico-legal requirements.
* To act as a patient advocate.
* To be a credible and approachable role model for junior staff and students – providing clinical support and guidance.
* To engage in local and national forums to develop practice and raise the profile of the service and Trust where appropriate.

Qualifications
* Adult Nursing Degree
* NMC registration
* Recognised Sexual health/HIV course
Experience
* Experience of sexual health history taking, screening and examination of male and female clients.
* Experience of managing patients with stable non-complex HIV disease.
