The Client
The Client has cerebral palsy, epilepsy, learning and physical disabilities, however she is a naturally happy young woman and benefits from a support team who are both engaging and interactive with the care they provide. When she is in pain, the Client can become upset and frustrated as a means of communicating her needs. During these times, she may kick, pinch or refuse personal care, meals, and drinks and it is therefore vital that her care team are able to remain calm in order to help manage the Clients behaviour and to provide her with the support she needs within the family home and the local community.
The role includes the provision of personal care, manual handling and administering medication. The Client loves swimming and her hydrotherapy sessions in particular and it is a requirement that all candidates applying for day shift Support Worker shifts are willing to go into the water to provide support during hydrotherapy sessions although you dont need to be a swimmer to provide this support. The successful candidate will also need to actively participate in the Clients rehabilitation programme following training from her MDT team and adherence to the protocols in the care plan.
Hobbies and Interests
The Client is encouraged to live as full, active, and comfortable life as possible, so social and recreational activities are vital, together with learning her communication strategies due to her being non:verbal.
The entire family have a passion for football and a ball is used within her rehabilitation programme to ensure engagement and maximum fun. She loves her hydrotherapy sessions, pop music, reading, going for a walk, a drive in the car, visiting the park and shopping She also loves using the swing in her garden so is a bit of an adrenaline junkie. With an outgoing personality, she needs people to be bubbly, proactive, and creative with the willingness to join in on all her activities and rehabilitation programmes.
