About Us
We are St Andrew's, a mental health charity dedicated to inspiring hope for those living with complex mental health needs. We envision a future with less stigma, more community support, research, and education, aiming to be at the forefront of inspiring real change. We want to ensure that everyone with complex mental health needs is heard, valued, and has hope for their future.
The largest UK medium secure service for deaf men aged between 18 and 65 years old, our ward accepts patients with a wide range of diagnoses, including mental illness, learning disability, brain injury, autism spectrum disorder, or personality disorder. Our Deaf medium secure service provides high-quality care in a linguistically and culturally appropriate environment, with British Sign Language (BSL) as the first language of the service.
Your role with us
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Deaf Service for a qualified Social Worker. You will join a high-achieving and committed social work team within an inpatient hospital setting. As a Social Worker, you will gain experience and develop a deeper understanding of complex mental health needs, with access to relevant training and a comprehensive ASYE programme.
You will work in partnership with our multi-disciplinary teams (including Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Nursing, and other Allied Health Professions) to provide holistic individualized treatment plans and work directly with our patients on their recovery journey. You will take the lead in carer engagement and involvement, ensuring that families are part of the team. Additionally, you will become an expert in mental health legislation and practice, giving evidence at Tribunals and leading safeguarding efforts.
You must have a recognized Social Work Qualification and ideally experience in Mental Health and Mental Capacity Legislation, as well as Safeguarding Adults Legislation and practice, including undertaking safeguarding investigations. Applicants need to be proficient in British Sign Language (BSL).
St Andrew’s Healthcare Social Workers must be registered with Social Work England, with opportunities for training to ensure registration. You will also receive regular clinical supervision, an annual performance review, and opportunities for development to stay updated with the latest research, trends, and best practices in psychiatric social work.
As a charity focusing on Education, Research, and Training, we offer access to ASYE, Practice Educator courses, Social Work forums, and maintain strong links with the University of Northampton and local teaching partnerships.
Our patients and colleagues expect you to embody St Andrew’s CARE values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence every single day.
