In this role, you will lead the development and implementation of project and programme controls across UKAEA. As Project and Programme Controls Lead, your responsibilities will include: driving best practices and ensuring compliance with standards; advising project/programme leads on setting up or improving controls within their projects/programmes; and improving the understanding of controls, consistency in data, and enabling greater accuracy and predictability in programme/project delivery across UKAEA. Controls – baselining, change control, cost management, estimating, planning / schedule management, risk management, document control, reporting. Note UKAEA have a dedicated risk department which this role will work alongside for the risk aspects. This role will also work with the Head of Corporate Reporting and Analysis and the Head of the PfMO in relation to reporting. Additional Responsibilities: Provide leadership and guidance to team members and stakeholders. Offer strategic advice, actively contribute to governance boards, and enhance awareness of controls during business case stage. Establish and implement the appropriate processes and procedures required to ensure consistency of approach in how controls are managed across the UKAEA portfolio. Build skills. capacity and capability for project and programme controls at UKAEA. Including the recruitment and development of project and programme control professionals, ensuring their growth, engagement, and performance. Drive continuous improvement and support internal audits. Develop and implement change control and performance measurement systems, integrating tools like Primavera P6 and PowerBI. Interface with key stakeholder groups (e.g. Finance, Risk, Programme Directors, Programme Managers and the Corporate Change Board). About the Portfolio Management Office and P3M profession: UKAEA is undergoing an exciting transformation as it scales up to meet the challenge of positioning the UK as a leader in fusion energy. As part of this there is a requirement to establish the optimum Portfolio, Programme and Project (P3M) construct. The purpose of the Portfolio Management Office (PfMO) is to outline and run an effective and supportive service to projects, programmes, portfolios and the Executive at UKAEA. The central hub of the PfMO is made up of a core team of six who are not matrixed out and form a centre of excellence, namely the: Head of PfMO, Deputy Head PfMO & Capability Lead, Project and Programme Controls Lead, Benefits, Monitoring and Evaluation Lead, Portfolio Data Analyst and PfMO Coordinator. These roles are integral in helping build a strong, professional and maturing P3M capability at UKAEA. Projects and programmes at UKAEA vary in risk and complexity and range in value from under £50k to over £0.5bn. Projects span a number of sectors including science, innovation, engineering, regulatory, technology, and facility development; these are delivered by the 200 project professionals working across the organisation, many of which are matrixed out from the PfMO.
