JGP have a rare and exciting opportunity to join their growing team of structural engineers operating throughout the beautiful SW of England, and sometimes beyond! With a broad range of interesting projects, every day is different. Where else would a structural engineer want to be!?
Reporting to the structures department head, you will take on a key role within our structural engineering department, running and delivering your own projects from inception through to construction or forming part of a larger team to deliver schemes on time and budget.
Day to Day Duties:
1. Delivering structural design and detailing of projects either on your own or as part of a wider team.
2. Working with our Civil and Geotechnical departments to deliver projects.
3. Travelling to and attending sites for the purposes of survey works, inspections, monitoring works, meetings, etc.
4. Working with industry partners/teams i.e. Architect, Contractors, Engineers etc. to deliver projects to suit the client’s requirements.
5. Act in a professional manner at all times and build relationships with clients, consultants, contractors etc. and JGP staff.
6. Producing and assisting with fee quotations/bid documents to win new work.
7. Ensuring projects are designed to comply with current design codes and regulations.
8. Ensuring projects and site works comply with current Health and Safety requirements and industry standards whilst promoting a culture of awareness with your fellow colleagues and wider project teams.
9. Identify opportunities for further work and/or added benefit to the client.
10. Assist JGP Civil and Geotechnical departments when and where appropriate and skills permit.
11. Keep up with industry innovations, attend CPD/training courses to maintain a good knowledge of current construction & engineering practice.
Skills and Attributes:
1. You will be proficient in the design of reinforced concrete structures such as braced multi-storey buildings, tanks, podia, transfer decks etc.
2. You will be capable of working individually or as part of a wider team either as lead engineer or assisting others.
3. Be conversant in the use of 3D design software packages such as Masterseries, SCIA Engineer.
4. You will be fully conversant in the use of AutoCad such that you can produce construction quality design and detail drawings.
5. The use of CADS RC and/or Revit 3D modelling software would be an asset although not essential.
6. You will have a good grasp of English sufficient to be able to write reports for issue to clients or other project team members.
7. You will be punctual, professional and highly motivated with the ability to manage others to deliver projects.
8. You will be able to design using all of the common construction materials i.e. steel, concrete, timber and masonry using British Standards and Eurocodes and be willing to learn the application of these codes where not fully conversant.
9. Full driving licence is essential.
Required Qualifications:
You will have a relevant engineering degree with a minimum of 3 years post-graduate (5 years preferable) experience within an engineering design consultancy. You will be Chartered or working towards Chartership in either MIStructE or MICE.
