Entry and Senior Level Positions Available Toshiba Europe Limited has pioneered the development of quantum communication systems over the past decade, setting new standards for cryptography and data security. We invite applications for the post of Research Scientist in the Quantum Information Group at the Cambridge Research Laboratory. The successful candidate will lead work on analysing the physical security of actual quantum cryptography systems. The successful candidate will participate in the design and execution of implementation security for quantum cryptography systems. You will join a dynamic and world-leading organisation, working alongside a team of researchers and engineers, and playing a major role in the research and development of next-generation secure communication products. Responsibilities: Work closely with the rest of the implementation security team to understand and solve quantum cryptography implementation security related problems Analyse implementation security of real-world quantum cryptography systems Develop security solutions for quantum cryptography systems Simulate real world quantum cryptography systems and optimise performance Write technical design and test documentation Contribute to efforts in developing global standards for quantum technology Skills & Experience - Essential: A PhD in Physics, Electronic Engineering or related discipline Good understanding of experimental approaches to quantum cryptography Track record of world leading research in quantum communication Good communication skills, both written and verbal Excellent problem solving skills Motivation to work in a mutlidisciplinary team, demonstrate excellent communication skills and time management to successfully drive projects Skills & Experience - Desirable: Deep knowledge of quantum cryptography protocols and security proofs Experience with quantum random number generation Competency with Linux, Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW and Bash Electronics design experience (e.g. PCB design / FPGA development) Background information: Keeping personal data safe and secure is one of the greatest challenges posed by the rapid development of today’s information technology. To meet this challenge, Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) has emerged as a revolutionary technology that allows the distribution of digital keys needed for data protection with security guaranteed by the laws of quantum physics. Unlike existing technologies based on public key cryptography, QKD is future proof and is not vulnerable to technological advances in mathematics, engineering, or computing or even the realisation of a quantum computer. Toshiba Europe Limited has pioneered the development of high speed QKD systems over the past decade, holding the record for both the highest secure key rate and longest distance on fiber. Toshiba quantum cryptography systems are deployed in secure fiber networks in the UK, mainland Europe, US and Japan. Competitive Salary & Generous Benefits Package
