As the Software Manager, you will take the helm of our team of professional software engineers, leading the charge in developing our control systems, GUI, advanced analytics, and overall management of our software portfolio. Key Responsibilities:
* As part of our leadership team, work with peers across the organisation to run our business to define and deliver strategic objectives. Influence by example, setting high standards and expectations for those around you.
* Develop and drive our software strategy. Recommend new tools and techniques that will continue to improve product quality and the development process. Identify opportunities to improve systems and procedures to keep software engineering at OIPT at the forefront of technology. Scope and specify the developments and projects needed to meet these strategic goals.
* Carry out line management for a team of software engineers, providing guidance and technical support.
* Programme management of software projects, through both defining specifications and overseeing the delivery to ensure success.
* Ensure the quality of all software produced by the team is high and fully documented.
* Work closely with the engineering management team to proactively develop customer intimacy for all our engineers and collaborate with other parts of the engineering team and business.
* Undertake customer site visits if required as our most senior software representative.
Education / Qualifications:
* Degree qualified in a computing and/or physics-related discipline.
* Extensive software experience (includes C++, C, assembler, and PLC programming experience).
* Significant experience in management responsibilities for a development team.
Professional Skills/ Abilities:
* Significant practical experience in PC-based C++ development in a real-time control environment. PLC and/or C (embedded real time). C# (Windows Forms or WPF). Borland environment would be an advantage.
* Experience in developing complex software applications to deadlines, ideally within a commercial or industrial environment.
* Developing and delivering a software roadmap of work, balancing priority with commercial impact.
* Experience in leadership in an organisation running Agile Development and DevOps.
Desirable Technical Knowledge:
* UML.
* TCP and UDP socket communications.
* Serial Protocols (RS232/RS485).
* Field bus systems (Profibus/DeviceNET/Ethernet-based).
* Motion Control (Servos and Steppers).
* PLC (programmable logic controllers).
* Embedded PC systems.
* Continuous integration (and unit testing), Source Control.
