Job Title: Support Worker (Wee Friendly Club)
Responsible to: Older People’s Day Service Manager
Salary: £12.21 per hour + contribution to work place pension
Hours: 15 hours per week Monday - Friday and flexible to meet the requirements of the job including some evenings and weekend work. There will be no additional payment for overtime or unsociable hours, but time off in lieu will be given for hours worked in excess of contracted hours
Main Purpose
To provide care and support to the older members of the community who are isolated and assist in the development of the project in line with the aims and objectives of the organisation’s constitution.
Location
The Support Worker will be based within the premises of Orbiston Neighbourhood Centre in Bellshill.
Job Activities
o The person employed is responsible to the Older People’s Day Service Manager and the Operations Manager.
o To ensure the pursuance of the aims and objectives of Orbiston Neighbourhood Centre, in relation to Older People’s Day Services.
o To be part of the team which includes staff, volunteers, trainees and students.
o To promote a caring environment consistent with legislation, the policy of care and practice of the organisation and of the local authorities Social Work Department and enabling those attending the service to maintain and develop individual lifestyles.
o To contribute, in consultation with other agencies, carers and older persons to the formulation, assessment and review of care plans for each individual.
o To provide a high level of support to individuals as determined by their care plans to meet their physical, emotional, spiritual, psychological and social needs.
o To undertake personal care duties in or out of the building as are required to maintain the well-being and dignity of the older person.
o To undertake duties in relation to our day service, men’s group and craft group activities and development of our programme of activities, all in line with the priorities of the Health and Social Care agenda.
o To assist in ensuring the project is implemented in accordance with appropriate legislation and good practice, eg health and safety, equal opportunities, risk assessment etc.
o To participate in bus escort duties when transporting older people to and from the Centre.
o To maintain records and undertake administrative duties as consistent with the role.
o To attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.
o To advise management in building and equipment maintenance requirements and to assist in keeping the premises and equipment to the required standard.
o To undertake other duties in relation to organisational development as may be deemed necessary by the Board of Directors and/or the Operations Manager.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POST:
o Knowledge and experience of working in the voluntary sector
o Experience of working in an elderly care environment
o You must have a proven aptitude for working with older people and have a caring and compassionate nature
o To hold a relevant qualification and be prepared to undertake necessary training
o Excellent communication, networking and interpersonal skills
o Clear thinker with a positive, adaptable and flexible approach
o A commitment to equal opportunities in principle and in practice
o An understanding of the spiritual needs of individuals and communities
o Good organisational skills
o Comfortable working in a team
o Experience of working with the general public
o Experienced in working with people with learning difficulties and special needs
o Commitment to the regeneration of the local community and to the support and development of people.
