Wiggin LLP is a specialist law firm specialising in media, technology and intellectual property.
The Role:
We are looking to hire our first HRBP as part of a wider development and improvement strategy for our HR function.
Reporting to the Head of HR, you will be focussed on supporting our partners and the Executive Services Manager in relation to the lawyers and PAs employed within our Practice Groups and Executive Services team. You’ll help them maximise business performance through driving talent management, development and engagement strategies and activities while also supporting on day-to-day HR issues.
Providing a high level of HR leadership, you’ll advise, support and coach managers to maintain and develop highly engaged and talented teams able to provide the best service to our clients. You will help the partners build talent, growth and succession plans and coach less experienced managers to build their people leadership and management skills.
Being part of a small HR Team, the role will be broad in nature and very hands on. You’ll run any HR casework personally. You’ll also work collaboratively with the team’s recruitment, development, reward and administrative specialists to provide a seamless HR service to the Firm’s partners in relation to the full employee lifecycle and HR calendar activities.
You’ll work with the Head of HR to develop and share information and ideas to progress and mature the HR strategies. You’ll have the opportunity to lead and/or support on select projects, policy reviews, and process improvement initiatives. As a senior team member, you’ll also encourage the development of less experienced team members and coach/support the HR Manager on more complex transactional HR issues relating to business support teams where appropriate.
The client group currently consists of approximately 140 people based mainly across London and Cheltenham. Based in Cheltenham with the rest of our HR team, you will need to travel typically several times each month to our London office.
Our genuinely friendly and supportive HR team have some exciting plans. This year we’ll be onboarding a new HRIS and refreshing our DEI and values activities. We’re developing better communications and systems and reviewing a number of key policies. There’s always plenty to get involved in and you’ll have the opportunity to put your own stamp on how this new role develops.
With so much to do, our preference is to fill the role on a full-time basis, but exceptional candidates looking for some flexibility (at least 80% FTE) would be considered.
About you:
We are looking for someone who can make an immediate impact, so you will already have some experience as an HR Manager or HRBP gained in a professional services environment, ideally in the legal sector.
You’ll be CIPD qualified (level 5 or above) or possess an equivalent qualification such as an HR master's degree. You must have a strong knowledge of UK employment law and a strong level of experience of and competence in managing performance issues and other HR/ER casework.
You will need to be pro-active and flexible, bringing exceptional influencing and stakeholder management skills alongside commercial acumen and pragmatic business skills.
