Consultant Psychiatrist - Brunswick Ward (Inpatient) (RRI Applicable)
Sussex Partnership have an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our acute services at Mill View Hospital in Hove. This is a new Consultant Psychiatrist post. The Consultant will work with working age patients on Brunswick Ward (8 PA's), a 13 bedded acute adult mental health ward. This post is one example of the commitment of the Trust to ensure career development for our Consultant workforce and to develop enhanced provision and capacity for families and carers using the service in challenging times.
Brunswick Ward is situated in Mill View Hospital where there are 4 other acute wards with their own fully established medical teams. The Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team is located within the hospital and accepts referrals from acute wards to facilitate supportive discharges. Mill View Hospital is also the base for some of the Brighton and Hove Community Mental Health Teams.
The Consultant will work closely with and support the multi-disciplinary Team, which also includes a SAS Doctor and resident doctors to deliver person-centred mental health care. You will be supported by nursing staff, occupational therapists and psychologists to support, formulate and implement treatment plans. We regularly support medical students on placement from Brighton and Sussex Medical School.
Main duties of the job
The Consultant Psychiatrist will provide specialist medical and psychiatric assessment and treatment including, when appropriate, physical investigations of patients. You will provide senior medical leadership to the ward multidisciplinary team and take the lead in managing complex cases. You will provide specialist medical advice and consultation to a range of health and social care staff to promote effective delivery of person-centred mental health care. You will provide leadership and clinical supervision to the SAS Doctor and Resident Doctors. You will complete appropriate Mental Health Act assessments, related medical and administrative documents including Mental Health Tribunal reports. The post holder will operate within the professional code of conduct, guidelines, policies, procedures and legislation relevant to the post. You will provide cover for female patients admitted to the single-bedded Health Based Place of Safety at Mill View Hospital when required. You will provide cover for Approved Clinical work to colleagues in the acute pathway upon the rota/request.
About us
This job attracts a Recruitment and Retention payment of £25,000, in addition to (up to) £8000 relocation allowance. The RRP payment is paid in the following instalments:
* £5000 payment paid on appointment
* £5000 retention payment paid at 12 month anniversary of employment
* £6500 retention payment paid at 30 month anniversary of employment
* £8500 retention payment paid at 48 month anniversary of employment
The Recruitment and Retention payment is pro rata for part time employees. Person Specification
Transport
* Holds and will use valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposed alternative.
* Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
Qualifications
* MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
* Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
* In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice

* Excellent knowledge in specialty
* Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
* Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
