Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Rehabilitation Assistant in the Medical Therapy Team at Manchester Royal Infirmary.
You will be working as part of a Therapy Team to assist the qualified Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists in the provision of therapeutic care and rehabilitation. You will be working predominantly with an older population of patients; therefore, you will need to have an empathetic nature, excellent communication skills and any previous experience of working with dementia patients would also be beneficial.
You will have the opportunity to work with the wider multidisciplinary teams and help in the planning of patient care. The role will also involve some administrative tasks and equipment management; general IT skills are required.
You should be able to work as directed by the qualified therapists but also be confident and competent in carrying your own caseload and reporting back to the team. You should therefore be able to demonstrate the ability to motivate patients to maximise their rehabilitation potential.
Main duties of the job
1. Assisting the qualified Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists in the delivery of high-quality rehabilitation care to patients to facilitate safe discharges from hospital.
2. Working directly with patients to carry out treatment programmes as directed by the Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapist and reporting back. Assisting the therapists with the more complex patients. Good moving and handling skills with patients.
3. Working with the wider multidisciplinary team and feeding information into and back from the therapy team.
4. Demonstrate excellent communication skills with patients, their families and the multidisciplinary team.
5. Be able to motivate and encourage patients with their therapy, and also have an empathetic nature.
6. Administrative tasks and equipment management, including note writing, data collection for audit purposes; good general IT skills are required.
