Job Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Sustainability Manager to join us on a fixed-term contract for a period of 12 months initially.
This role will be for 3 - 5 days per week, with the exact hours agreed upon appointment.
This role will be based from our Plymouth sites but there may be the opportunity for some remote working. Some travel may be required across Devon and Cornwall to support various projects in line with our Sustainability strategy (travel expenses paid).

Main Duties of the Job
As the Sustainability Manager, you will lead projects to support our aim to become net zero by 2040. You will have a flexible and adaptive working approach to developing solutions to reduce environmental impact, addressing associated challenges, and motivating others to engage and support our sustainability strategy. You will take the lead role on a variety of projects and initiatives to improve our carbon footprint across all areas of the business. In addition, you will work with staff across all areas of the business, encouraging others to share recommendations for reducing our carbon footprint and embedding a culture of improving sustainability throughout the organisation.
Job Responsibilities
Role Summary:
The Sustainability Manager is responsible for leading projects to support PDSE's aim to become net zero by 2040. This role requires a flexible and adaptive working approach to developing solutions to reduce environmental impact, addressing associated challenges, and motivating others to engage and support our sustainability strategy.
Key Accountabilities:
1. Lead on a variety of projects and initiatives to improve our carbon footprint across all areas of the business.
2. Support collaborative working with staff at all levels including the Senior Management Team and Directors.
3. Provide direction and encourage others to share recommendations for reducing our carbon footprint, embedding a culture of improving sustainability throughout the organisation.
4. Lead the Sustainability Group, coordinate and chair regular meetings.
5. Prepare and present briefings, updates, and reports on sustainability projects.
6. Lead on gaining ISO14001 accreditation and implementing all associated documents and procedures.
7. Work alongside the Facilities team to support carbon reduction initiatives such as solar panels and EV charging.
8. Assist with monitoring, data analysis, and reporting of performance in relation to sustainability.
9. Provide assistance with business projects, ensuring environmental impact is considered and reduced where possible.
10. Review and update related processes and policies regularly.

Knowledge, Education, and Training:
1. Qualified to degree level or equivalent qualification/experience.
2. Good, effective written and verbal communication skills.
3. Understanding of confidentiality and measures to implement it.
4. Willing to undertake further training.
Experience:
1. Previous experience working in a sustainability-related role, or graduate in sustainability or related subject.
2. Strong interest in sustainability.
3. Previous experience devising, monitoring, and implementing new initiatives and processes.
Skills:
1. Good communication and interpersonal skills.
2. Good organisational skills with the ability to plan and prioritise tasks.
3. Good time management skills, with the ability to manage a variety of tasks and manage competing demands.
