Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) job summary
About the role:
* To support teaching staff in the development and education of children including the provision of specialist skills and knowledge at an advanced level across a range of disciplines.
* You will have NVQL3 or equivalent plus appropriate experience.
* Minimum of 2 years' experience as a teaching assistant / pupil support assistant, within the last 5 years.
* To focus on pupils' learning in the classroom and have a sound knowledge of the curriculum.
* To use direct short-term intervention strategies effectively.
* To support teaching staff in the development and education of children including taking management responsibilities for other Pupil Support Assistants (PSA).
* Follow and actively promote the school's vision and values.
* Follow the Trust and school's policies and procedures including those for safeguarding, health and safety and care of pupils.
* Good organisational and time management skills.
* Ability to contribute to assessment and monitoring of pupil progress.
* Ability to plan, prepare and deliver lessons and teaching materials.
Duties and responsibilities
* Advanced Practitioner - To undertake the duties of a PSA and in addition undertake all or most of the following as agreed with teaching staff and with minimum supervision.
Support for Pupils
* Use specialist skills to meet the intellectual, physical, social and emotional needs of pupils.
* Assess the needs of pupils and contribute to the development of Individual Education Plans.
* Dealing with the personal care needs of children where appropriate in line with the guidance of the local authority.
* Good sound knowledge of IT and how it is used to support pupils' learning effectively in a classroom setting.
* Support children with special educational needs.
To adhere to the ethos of the school
* Individuals have a responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people you come into contact with.
* To undertake appropriate professional development including adhering to the principle of performance management.
* Have excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills.

* Attendance at appropriate staff training, staff meetings and parents evenings.
* Any other duties as commensurate within the grade in order to ensure the smooth running of the school.
