We have been assigned by one of the UK's more prestigious NHS Trusts to help them recruit a Consultant in Gastro on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful Gastro department.
Our client is a pioneering Trust, on an exciting journey of healthcare transformation, with award-winning research and innovation, and a strong team ethos. They're looking for positive clinical leaders who want to help deliver first-class patient care to a fascinating and complex population and be part of something special. Our client has five hospitals providing a wide range of high-quality services and opportunities for innovation. One of the sites has the full range of district general hospital services, as well as regional specialties, including the country's best performing trauma unit. Another of the sites also provides district general hospital services, while one of the other sites is a specialist services hub which provides adult medical care, inpatient renal, urology and vascular services and robotic surgery.
The successful appointee will be joining a department that currently includes 4 consultants, 2 specialist registrars, 2 clinical fellows, and 3 specialist nurses with responsibilities for inflammatory bowel disease, viral hepatitis, and endoscopy. A number of specialist gastroenterology services have been established at the Trust including ERCP, oesophageal physiology, capsule endoscopy, and fibroscanning. The appointee will be expected to:
1. Contribute to the management of inpatient and outpatient Gastroenterology.
2. Preferably contribute to the development of specialist services including pH monitoring/manometry, EUS, and complex polypectomy while seeking to expand the ERCP service.
3. Participate in and present the results of audit.
4. Provide appropriate care, diagnostic, and therapeutic services for patients presenting with gastroenterological illnesses.
5. Contribute towards the site-based GI bleed rota.
6. Perform two OPD clinics per week (seeing 5 new patients and 6 follow-up patients) and two general endoscopy lists, plus a session dedicated to a specialist interest.
7. Expertise in ERCP for one of the posts available would be welcomed; one session per week will be dedicated to this for the appropriate individual.
The post holder may be expected to fulfill some of their clinical commitments on other sites in the Trust. The gastroenterology consultant teams (when covering the wards) on each acute site provide early morning and afternoon review of the Emergency Floor to identify patients needing specialist care and will perform daily board and ward rounds of patients on the specialist GI/hepatology ward supporting the delivery of SAFER. The teams are supported by complements of three specialist registrars, two SHOs, and one FY1 doctor on each site.
Our client is based in a beautiful suburb borough on the outskirts of London with close proximity to big international airports, along with access to highly reputable public and private schools within the area.
