Structured Cabling Design Engineers

* Duration: 6 months (extensions are expected)

* Rate: £negotiable
Role: The successful candidates will be responsible for the design and implementation of structured cabling systems within various construction projects, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards. This role requires a strong understanding of construction methodologies, CDM regulations, and the ability to effectively sequence works.
Responsibilities:
1. Design and develop detailed structured cabling system designs for new build and refurbishment projects, including fiber optic and copper cabling infrastructure.
2. Prepare detailed design specifications, drawings, and documentation in accordance with industry best practices and client requirements.
3. Conduct site surveys to assess existing infrastructure and identify cabling requirements.
4. Develop cable schedules, bill of materials, and cost estimates.
5. Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and construction teams to ensure seamless integration of the cabling infrastructure.
6. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, including CDM 2015, Building Regulations, and industry standards (e.g., ISO/IEC 11801).
7. Develop and manage project timelines and budgets.
8. Liaise with clients, contractors, and subcontractors to resolve design and installation issues.
9. Prepare and present technical reports and presentations.
10. Understand and adhere to health and safety regulations on construction sites.
11. Contribute to the continuous improvement of design processes and methodologies.
12. Proactively identify and mitigate potential risks associated with the cabling infrastructure.
13. Experience with sequencing works to ensure efficient installation and minimize disruption.
Qualifications and Experience:
1. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or a related field.
2. Minimum 5 years of experience in structured cabling design within a construction environment.
3. Proven experience in designing and implementing fiber optic and copper cabling systems.
4. Thorough understanding of CDM 2015 regulations and their application within construction projects.
5. Excellent knowledge of relevant industry standards and best practices.
6. Proficiency in AutoCAD, and other relevant design software (e.g. Revit, BIM software).
7. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
8. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
9. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
10. Full UK driving license is preferred.
Desirable Skills:
1. Experience with BICSI standards.
2. Experience with project management software.
3. Experience with data center cabling design.
4. Experience with wireless network design.
