Description Are you looking for a dynamic role where you can contribute to complex international cases and make a real impact on families across borders? The Central Authority & International Law Team is responsible for managing Scotland’s international civil law obligations, ensuring effective legal cooperation between Scotland and countries outside the UK. The team handles a range of complex and sensitive issues, including the recovery of child maintenance, parental child abduction, child protection, and adult protection. Additionally, it facilitates the service of judicial documents and the taking of evidence across borders. This is a varied and fast-paced role, requiring engagement with international partners, legal experts, and stakeholders to support families and individuals in need of cross-border legal assistance. Responsibilities Processing of maintenance applications from and to other countries and dealing with registration of foreign court orders in Scottish courts. Management of maintenance caseload. Processing incoming and outgoing requests for service of judicial documents both in Scotland and abroad. Dealing with sensitive enquiries on the telephone, by email, and in writing. Liaising with other central authorities, parents, other members of the public, court staff, solicitors and other Scottish Government Departments. Working independently of Line Manager on a daily basis, only escalating when necessary. Some aspects of the role within the Central Authority can only be done from the office. Caseworkers are expected to work in St Andrew’s House for a minimum of three days per week, more when initially learning the role.
