We are looking for a Design Manager to join a contractor based near Southampton to join their growing pre-construction team.
The company works across the Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire, and Dorset areas and has a highly successful track record on a range of schemes in the education, commercial, retail, and industrial marketplaces. More recently, they have successfully been awarded opportunities to work on the latest framework opportunities for local government and local authorities, as well as larger strategic 5-year agreements and repeat business opportunities for established clients.
Typical projects range from £5 to £25 million in value, involving both 2-stage negotiated and competitive single-stage bids.
The role involves working on bids and tenders all the way through to information management on live schemes, providing a unique insight to take the scheme from tender to the build phase and finally client handover.
Preconstruction duties will include collaborating with the bid team, estimating teams, building services, and design managers to create and submit the best bid possible. This is based on forensic analysis of the design process of each package, working with internal teams as well as specialist consultants, engineers, and the supply chain to overcome issues and propose innovative ideas for the design elements of the scheme. You will have the opportunity to work with experienced individuals who can help train and develop your skills.
Upon contract award, you will be responsible for drawings and information control with site teams, subcontractors, and clients. You will be expected to spend time on-site working with teams to ensure compliance with BIM and CDM requirements and collaborate with commercial teams on RFIs, variations, etc., taking responsibility for the design elements of the project as it progresses through the programme.
They are currently working on several new bids, 2nd stage opportunities, and 3 live projects in the Dorset/Hampshire area - all of which you can get involved with.
This is a fantastic opportunity to engage in every aspect of a construction business and the life cycle of a project. The contractor has an excellent training programme, and this role would suit someone looking to advance from a trainee or assistant level, or an experienced coordinator seeking to gain both experience and promotion in the medium term.
