About the position:
Are you a seasoned catalyst expert with a passion for innovation and a drive to make a tangible impact? We are looking for a dynamic and innovative leader to join our team as a Senior Research Scientist – Catalysis. In this role, you will spearhead research, development, and commercialization programs focused on developing, optimizing, and recycling MMA synthesis catalysts for Mitsubishi Chemical UK's Alpha process. The role is outward facing, involving external collaborations with other Mitsubishi researchers, academia, vendors and technology partners, in order to bring solutions to market.
As the go-to expert in catalysis science and technology, you will be the custodian of critical knowledge areas, including catalysis fundamentals, catalyst synthesis, structure-function relationships, and recycling. Your expertise will play a vital role in ensuring the successful global deployment of Alpha catalyst technology.
Your responsibilities:
* Identify scientific/technical gaps and initiate projects for catalyst or process improvement.
* Design and conduct experiments to assess new ideas, projecting technical, sustainability and commercial outcomes.
* Manage projects, resources, and communicate progress/results to internal stakeholders.
* Stay updated on science and technology trends through networking, conferences, and collaboration.
* Provide expert consulting and coaching within the business and manage intellectual property with external parties.
* Lead and enforce safe working practices at research and manufacturing sites, including international collaboration.
Required experience, knowledge and skills:
* Ph.D. in catalysis with experience in chemical, materials, or technology development.
* Strong passion for science and scientific excellence.
* Expertise in project management for catalysis programs, including risk management.
* Proficient in data analysis, modelling, and problem-solving.
* Excellent communication, influencing, and leadership skills, with the ability to manage diverse teams.
* Strong critical thinking skills, with the ability to develop creative solutions to complex technical questions.
