The Catering department has an exciting opportunity to work as part of the team at the End Unit at Heartlands Hospital.
Our catering Operatives should have a passion and care for ensuring patient meals are provided with a friendly, safe and efficient service.
Please note the vacancy is for 15 hours per week.
Responsibilities
The work involves preparation, handling and serving of foods across all areas of the Catering department and associated hospital sites. The post holder will require maintaining good food hygiene standards for patients, staff and visitors to the Trust in accordance with individual sites processes.
Good housekeeping and cleaning practices are maintained to a professional standard promoting a professional image to patients and visitors promoting the Trust vision and values.
Use of industrial and light equipment and machinery is required within ward services, retail, stores and central production units.
Main Duties of the Job
1. Communicate menus to patient and ward teams.
2. Identify and report faults as required to department supervisors.
3. Provide high quality food and beverage service to patients following department process.
4. Maintain excellent cleaning standards within the working area.
5. Provide high quality retail and hospitality service to all customers.
6. Ensure codes of practice for HACCP and food safety are followed as per site training.
7. Temperatures of cooked foods are recorded, along with chilled and frozen storage using the designated HACCP sheets.
8. Replenish stock in accordance with retail display plans.
9. Check dates and rotation of food within the working area.
10. Handle cleaning chemicals in accordance with COSHH and training provided.
11. Report any cash handling or security breaches immediately to Supervisors and Managers.
12. Appropriate removal of food waste (as per site process) using designated waste and recycling streams.
13. Ensure hospitality is delivered to areas as booked in liaison with the Hospitality Manager.
14. Use POS tills for payment transactions and follow departments cash handling process and procedures and report abuse of service to Supervisors or line managers.
15. Assist customers with needs and wheelchairs throughout the retail and hospitality service.
16. Be flexible in rotation of work from washing up, pan wash, counter serving, clearance and replenishments.

Qualifications
* GCSE Equivalent in English and Maths.
* Basic Food Hygiene Certificate or willingness to undertake in the induction period.
* Higher Catering Education.
* Other Education.
Experience
* Health and Safety or willingness to undertake in induction period.
* Food Hygiene Regulations or willingness to undertake in induction period.
* Willingness to undertake specific competencies to meet the full requirements of the role.
* Previous Catering Work Experience.
* Previous Hospital or Care Experience.
* Catering related knowledge.
* Allergy Regulations.
Additional Criteria
* Presentable.
* Work in large teams.
* Able to work in hot and cold environments.
* Time keeping.
* Driving License.
