The Eastern Pathology Alliance is formed from three Pathology Laboratories based at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH), the James Paget University Hospital and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kings Lynn. The Laboratory at NNUH provides a large range of Blood Sciences services comprising Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology and Transfusion, Immunology and Toxicology.
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist who has extensive experience working in haematology and managing staff to oversee the management and operation of our haematology laboratory at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. This role is based at the NNUH hub site and will be the service lead and subject matter expert for all aspects of the haematology laboratory service covering routine haematology, coagulation, haemoglobinopathy screening, andrology and phlebotomy services.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Blood Sciences manager, NNUH haematology clinical lead and be line manager to the Haematology Senior BMS staff, Andrology Lead and Phlebotomy Manager and be responsible for ensuring staffing resource is organized to ensure a 24/7 haematology and transfusion laboratory service is provided alongside Andrology and Phlebotomy services. Demonstrable experience of managing staff and pathology services is essential.
As a Postholder You Will
* Be accountable for service delivery including emergency, out of hours training, for urgent & routine work and specialised work in haematology, achieving stated turnaround times in line with Trust and Service policies. Work to decrease turnaround times by improving the procedures used in the laboratory.
* Be responsible for direct line management of all Technical and support staff based in NNUH haematology laboratory including staff local induction, appraisals, performance management, sickness management and personal issues.
* Participate in the Blood Sciences Duty Manager roster and, when covering this role, to be available for telephone advice or personal assistance on site when problems outside normal working hours affect the laboratory service.
