About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Accounts Payable clerk to join our finance team at our Stockport Head Office.
In this role, you will support the Subcontractor Payments Manager, ensuring the team’s workload is effectively coordinated and that subcontractor certificates and payments are processed accurately and efficiently.
We’re looking for someone with strong attention to detail, leadership skills, and a thorough understanding of CIS and accounts payable processes. You should be reliable, flexible, proactive, and a role model for the team.
Key Responsibilities
* Supervise the daily operations of the Subcontractor Payments Team, including:
* Raising and matching subcontractor orders
* Support and train a team of Subcontractor Payment Administrators to maintain high standards and meet deadlines.
* Review invoices and payment runs to ensure accuracy, compliance with HMRC CIS guidelines, and adherence to company policies.
* Investigate and resolve complex payment issues or discrepancies, escalating when necessary.
* Build strong relationships with subcontractors and internal stakeholders to resolve queries and improve processes.
* Collaborate with finance, procurement, and operations teams to streamline processes and enhance efficiency.
* Drive process improvements by assessing current systems and implementing necessary changes.
* Assist with month-end and year-end processes, including accruals, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
* Stay updated on changes in HMRC CIS guidance and industry best practices.
* Support audits by providing documentation and responding to queries.
* Contribute to special projects and business initiatives as assigned by management.
Skills & Experience
* Extensive knowledge and experience of HMRC’s Construction Industry Scheme (CIS).
* Strong understanding of accounts payable processes, preferably with Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O and Excel proficiency.
* Excellent attention to detail with the ability to analyse large financial datasets accurately.
* Problem-solving skills to identify issues, suggest solutions, and drive process improvements.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
* Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
* Adaptability to change and willingness to embrace new technologies & processes.
