Our client has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Transport Planner to join a newly established Transport Planning team based in Manchester. This role focuses on projects predominantly across the Northwest, with additional support provided to initiatives in the Northern region. The successful candidate will bring expertise in development-related transport planning, including masterplan and site appraisals, junction modelling, transport assessments, and travel planning. Collaborating with the Associate Transport Planner, this position will play a vital role in developing the transport planning team and fostering relationships with both internal and external clients.
About the Role
The Manchester Civil Engineering team collaborates on high-profile, challenging projects alongside architects, engineers, and designers across the Northern region. These projects encompass civil engineering designs for building developments, public realm initiatives, highway infrastructure projects, and flood risk masterplanning. The newly formed transport planning team will work closely with this established civil engineering team, contributing to a range of dynamic and impactful projects.
Additionally, the role offers the opportunity to collaborate with a forward-thinking Urbanism team, delivering transport and movement strategies that enhance placemaking and urban regeneration.
Key Responsibilities
The Transport Planner will undertake a wide range of responsibilities, including:
1. Conducting Site Access Appraisals and developing Transport Statements, Transport Assessments, and Travel Plans.
2. Providing transport input for Environmental Assessments and Design and Access Statements.
3. Developing concept designs for highway access and junction improvement schemes.
4. Mentoring and guiding junior team members.
5. Building strong relationships with clients and internal teams.
6. Preparing fee proposals and assisting in securing new business opportunities.
7. Overseeing project resourcing, financial monitoring, and reporting.
About You
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in transport planning consultancy, coupled with a strong ability to communicate effectively with clients and team members.
Key Skills and Qualifications
· Significant postgraduate experience in transport planning, particularly in development planning, travel planning, and active travel.
· Chartered status as a Transport Planning Professional or Chartered Engineer.
· Strong technical expertise in Linsig and Junctions 9, with knowledge of TRACC or similar software being advantageous.
· A thorough understanding of local and national transport policy and guidance.
· Proven ability to manage client expectations and deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
