Founded in 1807, we are the oldest geological society in the world. Today, we are a world-leading communicator of Earth science – through publishing, library and information services, cutting-edge scientific conferences, education activities and outreach to the general public. We also provide impartial scientific information and evidence to support policy-making and public debate about the challenges facing humanity.
We have a membership (Fellowship) of approximately 12,000, more than 2,000 of whom are based outside the UK. Approximately 3,000 are Chartered Geologists or Chartered Scientists - professionals who have demonstrated a high level of technical competence in their field and a commitment to professional ethics.

What you’ll be doing …
The main purpose of this role is to provide customer facing support for the sales and marketing team. Customers will be internal and external and include but are not limited to: institutional and corporate librarians and information professionals, 3rd party sellers, authors, editors, book purchasers, representatives and agents globally.
Overall responsibilities / requirements …
* Support the sales team in managing agreements and licenses
* Support the sales and marketing teams in managing data requirements and reports (internal/external)
* Offer a high level of customer service to existing and potential customers
* Provide customers with marketing information and materials
Key accountabilities …
Sales and customer service:
* Offer support for customer queries on pricing, renewals negotiations and Rights Retention
* Support institutional renewal reminders processes
* Work with partners (PLS/CCC & others) to provide metadata to ensure all products are included in relevant databases quarterly
* Download reports as required from 3rd party sellers
* Work with 3rd party partners to enable member access to subscribed content
* Maintain a list of article pay-per-view (PPV) pricing and review twice yearly to maximise income
* Payment of royalties with the Sales and Customer Services Manager
* Create and upload MARC/Kbart files to website for libraries
* Quarterly subscription comparison
* Updating member email addresses in Lyell (from lists provided by database manager)
* Product updates on the online bookshop
Marketing:
* Marketing support and data entry for leads and opportunities
* Provide promotional questionnaires to authors/editors
* Creation of Advance Information / New business info sheets/Book order forms
* Creation of ‘most read reports’ to authors – monthly/quarterly
* Geographical content for reps/agents
* Adestra: regular data upload into Adestra from the online manuscript submission system and reporting
* Newsletter creation:
o New title alert newsletters
o Online bookshop sale newsletter
o Online bookshop sale: adding books and removing tags
General:
* Collaborate with colleagues at the Publishing House to share and maximise opportunities
* Develop an understanding of the sales processing for institutional subscriptions and book sales
* Contribute to streamlined sales processes resulting from new CRM/website developments

* A high level of clerical and administrative experience in a customer service role
* A good standard of written and spoken English, numeracy and a keen eye for detail
* A self-motivated learner able to work with minimal instruction
* Desire to work in a team environment
