The role
We have a great opportunity that has arisen with our Building Safety Team for a Building Safety Risk Manager. You will be responsible for ensuring that all Southern Housing's higher risk buildings are maintained to the highest possible building and fire safety standards, and that all policy outcomes, statutory and regulatory requirements are met. You will be providing advice, delivering key Building Safety activities and being a subject matter expert for building safety. You'll help ensure that we remain fully comply with the Building Safety Act 2022 and other relevant legislation.
In addition, you will:
1. Support the management team in maintaining and improving Building Safety policies, procedures and standards ensuring these are kept up to date with current processes and legislation, regulatory changes.
2. Regularly create, update, review and submit Building Safety Case Reports and risk assessments to the Building Safety Regulator within the period specified.
3. Work with external managing agents and freeholders to ensure compliance against relevant building & fire regulations where we are the accountable person for higher risk buildings.
4. Be accountable for the timely and effective response to regulatory requests, deficiency notices, enforcement notices and action plans relating to Building Safety.
5. Support the management and delivery of the Buildings Alterations and Permit to Work process on all higher risk buildings, ensuring that designs and work comply with relevant guidance, regulations, and Southern Housing's employer's requirements throughout the project life cycle.
6. Provide building and fire safety advice and oversight during the development process and new build handovers, responsible for the sign off of relevant handover checklists.
7. Attend resident meetings on projects on building safety related subjects.
This is a permanent full time position, although we would be open to a 12-month Secondment opportunity for internal candidates. You'll be based at one of our main offices in Farringdon, Croydon, Maidstone, or Sittingbourne, with the option for working in a hybrid way when appropriate and as agreed with your manager.
What you'll need
1. Excellent knowledge of relevant legislation, codes of practice, regarding building and fire safety.
2. You'll be working towards/willing to work towards a recognised building surveying, or risk assessor qualification or accreditation.
3. Experience of maintaining and analysing stock data within the asset database.
4. Experience of resident engagement and liaison.
5. Experience of managing high profile activities in a changing environment.
6. Experience of driving cultural change.
