We offer a starting salary of £20,764 with opportunities for pay increases as you advance in your apprenticeship.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you’ll do at work
* Learn the Ropes: Get hands-on experience working with our expert team in a real-world nuclear setting. You'll learn about the operation and maintenance of appropriate plant and equipment, environmental and regulatory requirements, relevant engineering theories and principles and much more.
* Work with Experts: Collaborate with seasoned engineers who will mentor and guide you through every step of the process.
* Be Hands-On: Develop skills in troubleshooting and finding innovative solutions to complex engineering challenges. Whether it’s assessing safety measures or contributing to environmental restoration projects, you’ll be part of a team dedicated to making a positive impact.
* Learn while you Earn: You will be following the Government-approved Level 6 Nuclear Scientist Nuclear Engineering Degree Apprenticeship Standard. You will be spending a portion of your time studying at Bridgwater & Taunton College in Cannington, Somerset. You can also expect on-the-job training at your allocated NRS site and the kind of practical experience you can’t get in a college-based environment.
* You must be 18 or over to gain security clearance.

Course contents
* Work competently in a technical nuclear environment, understand and promote personal responsibility for Health, Safety, Radiation Protection, Environmental Protection, Quality, Security, Safeguards and principles of Risk Management.
* Apply their science or engineering discipline knowledge to the development, operation, maintenance and progression of technologies used for Decommissioning (e.g. remote handling and robotics), Waste Management, Reprocessing, and Nuclear Power Generation.
* Accurately observe, record and draw conclusions from data and experimental evidence, recognising inherent uncertainties and limitations.
* Apply design processes including materials selection that meet nuclear industry standards.
* Apply the standards for nuclear professional practice as required by the industry and professional body institutions.

Essential qualifications
GCSE in:

* Engineering-related subject (grade 9-4)

* Science (grade C or above)
Other in:
* with a strong mathematical element (grade Pass)

Other requirements
