The vacancy This role is on a fixed-term basis until 31st March 2026. We will accept applicants who wish to work part-time as well as full-time. This role is based out of our Colchester office. Candidates will have the opportunity to work in the following areas: Braintree Maldon Chelmsford Colchester Tendring What you'll be doing As a Peer Worker, you'll play a key role in supporting people facing homelessness by sharing your own experiences to provide hope, confidence, and guidance. Working within the outreach team, you will: Offer emotional and practical support to people experiencing homelessness or at risk of losing their home Share your own journey to help customers overcome challenges and build resilience Work alongside outreach workers to support people with housing, benefits, mental health, and substance misuse issues Assist customers in accessing support services and making positive life changes Provide valuable insights to shape the future of homelessness support services Help to engage individuals facing multiple disadvantages, including those involved in the criminal justice system What we're looking for To be successful in this role, you will: Have lived experience of homelessness or being at risk of homelessness, particularly while managing mental health challenges or being in the criminal justice system Be open and honest in sharing your personal experiences to support and inspire others Be passionate about helping people achieve independence, stability, and wellbeing Have a kind and empathetic approach, recognising the unique needs of a diverse customer base Be a positive role model, demonstrating that change and progress are possible This role requires an Enhanced DBS check.
