Our client, a rapidly growing consultancy based in London, is seeking a highly experienced Principal Engineer - Electrification & Systems to join their team. Specialising in delivering high-quality engineering solutions across the rail sector, they have recently secured major projects in Control Period 7 (CP7) and anticipate significant workloads over the next five years, particularly in the Midlands.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and oversee the design of substations, switching structures, construction compounds, and lineside cable routes/structures within rail electrification projects.
* Manage technical delivery and ensure compliance with relevant railway and electrification standards, including NR/L2/ELP/27237 and NR/L2/ELP/27245.
* Work closely with clients, contractors, and multi-disciplinary teams to ensure successful project execution, meeting project goals and timelines.
* Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and designers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
* Ensure quality assurance and risk management are integrated into the project lifecycle, meeting safety, regulatory, and environmental standards.
* Act as the technical point of contact for clients and stakeholders, delivering technical presentations and reports.
* Review and approve technical documents, ensuring accuracy and adherence to project specifications.
* Contribute to bids and proposals with technical insights to help secure new work.
Job Requirements:
* Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or equivalent.
* Extensive experience in railway electrification and systems, with expertise in designing substations, switching structures, construction compounds, and lineside cable routes/structures.
* Proven experience in major rail projects within the UK, ideally with exposure to CP5, CP6, and CP7 frameworks.
* Strong knowledge of Network Rail standards, specifications, and procedures related to electrification and power systems.
* Experience managing technical teams and leading engineering design on complex railway infrastructure projects.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
* Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make informed decisions under pressure.
* Willingness to travel to project sites across the Midlands as required.
