Scope of role:
Providing technical support for teaching and surgical research programmes and undergrad/postgraduate teaching courses.
You will support skills training at a London-based Hospital setting as well as the Anatomy unit with regards to prosections and embalming duties. You will assist with administrative and licensing processes required by the HTA and health and safety protocols.
Key duties:
Acting as person designated under the HTA
Demonstrate and apply relevant knowledge and awareness of human anatomy
Responsible for organising set up of Core Anatomy Programme, under/post graduate courses, external courses, student and H&S/HTA compliance for all visitors and students who are using the site facilities
Ensure cadaveric and teaching materials are available and prepared as required for course programmes.
Prepare prosections from human cadavers and support all embalming activities including the administration and documentation in support of the Embalming Officer
Storage and cataloguing of human anatomy samples and documents, cleaning and maintenance of all the facility areas and advising with the development of teaching materials
Enforce HTA and H&S legislation in respect of cadavers from receipt to movement and disposal, ensuring a safe and legal working environment. To include accurate completion of all documentation, records and reports
Assist with the administration and implementation of H&S processes including risk assessments and COSHH assessments
Assist with room bookings and academic timetabling in conjunction with Course Managers
Undertaking any necessary training as instructed
Your background:
BSc or equivalent as a minimum in Anatomy/Biological Sciences - or a relevant vocational qualification and lab-based exposure
You will have operated in an education/teaching laboratory (or similar)
You will have strong and up-to-date experience with embalming and prosecting human cadavers
Strong computer literacy including MS Office and databases
Good HTA knowledge and licence, as well as knowledge of protocols associated with the receipt, processing, curation and disposition of human anatomical donations for education purposes
Current awareness of H&S legislation and regulations
Able to work in a confidential and discrete manner within stringent controls
High attention to detail, methodical and concise in your written record-keeping
Flexible approach to work location as this role is split between two London academic and hospital sites and may, on occasion require some additional hours on an ad hoc basis
Good general level of fitness - able to lift human specimens/cadavers with aid of hoist
