Head of Clinical Coding
Job overview
As Head of the Clinical Coding department, you will be responsible for setting, implementing and monitoring clinical coding policy, quality measures, and provision of service delivery across the trust. You will work closely with stakeholders to ensure high performance across a number of key coding metrics.
Leading a large, experienced and successful team of coding professionals, you will set targets for and develop the team to high standards, overseeing the day-to-day running of the department.

Main duties of the job
1. Leadership and day-to-day operational management of the trust-wide clinical coding service.
2. Development and monitoring of the effectiveness of the clinical coding function.
3. Leadership of a culture of high performance, supportiveness, and inclusion.
4. Ensuring the department keeps pace with technological and clinical development and classification of new procedures and techniques in line with latest guidance.
5. High-level staff development and ensuring that audit and training programmes continually improve the quality of clinical coding and clinical coder ability.
6. Hold the nationally recognised Accredited Clinical Coder Qualification (ACC) and be responsible for leading and developing the Clinical Coding service across sites, maximizing coded data quality, supporting the Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust in the delivery of its objectives.
7. Work with a high degree of professional confidence and autonomy ensuring an outstanding service is delivered.

Person specification
Training & Qualifications
* NCCQ - Accredited Clinical Coder (professional qualification established by NHS Digital in collaboration with the Institute of Health Record and Information Management).
* Experience of day-to-day service delivery, staff development, and implementation of change.
Experience
* Extensive and recent experience of working within an NHS acute Trust Clinical Coding environment.
* NHS managerial experience of a Clinical Coding or other team.
* Experience of delivering workforce change.
Communication and Relationship skills
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to communicate complex coding rules to coding staff, clinical staff, managerial staff, and external agencies.
