Job Summary:
The Global Research Institute (GRI) in Health & Care Technologies (H&CT) at Heriot-Watt University is seeking to appoint a talented Graphics Specialist to enhance the visual quality of research proposals, publications, and presentations. This role will be critical in translating complex scientific data, methodologies, and concepts into clear, accurate, and engaging visuals that improve understanding, accessibility, and competitiveness in funding proposals.
Role Purpose:
The Graphics Specialist will support the GRI’s mission of advancing health through impactful research by developing high-quality graphics that clearly communicate intricate scientific concepts and data.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Graphic Design for Research Proposals: Create and design visual materials, including charts, graphs, infographics, diagrams, and illustrations.
2. Collaborate with Researchers: Work closely with scientists, clinicians, and engineers to understand research content and translate complex information into accessible formats.
3. Ensure Consistency and Quality: Maintain consistency in visual content across research documents.
4. Training & Resource Development: Develop templates, guidelines, and conduct training sessions.
5. Incorporate Feedback: Gather input from researchers and stakeholders to refine visuals.
6. Innovation and Development: Stay updated on the latest trends in graphic design and data visualisation.
Education, Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
1. Experience: Proven experience in scientific or technical graphic design.
2. Technical Skills: Proficiency in graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).
3. Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail.
4. Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal skills.
5. Team Player: A professional and proactive approach.
Desirable:
1. Educational Background: Degree in Graphic Design, Scientific Communication, or a related field.
2. Grant Proposals: Experience in supporting/writing grant proposals.
