Your starting salary will be £27,300 pa.increasing to £28,350 after 12 months and increasing again to£32,288 when you reach 3 years’ service. We are fully committed toprogressing you through your PCO Portfolio or PCO Apprenticeshipwhich would increase your salary to £32,288 as soon as either ofthese is successfully completed which can realistically be achievedwithin 12 to 18 months of joining us. Day to day you’ll be involvedin:
Supervising prisoners in all aspects ofprison wingactivity. Overseeing work and education programmes,encouraging prisoners toparticipate. Operational matters such as prisonerheadcounts, prison cell searching, security, and administrativeprocesses. Managing prisoners who are at risk ofself-harm.

Preparing for your recruitmentjourney:
You’ll be invited you to complete anonline assessment. If you pass theinitial online assessment, we will invite you to attend a virtualcompetency-based interview. Once you passed this assessment, wewill invite you to the Prison for a visit and to complete a basicMaths and Englishassessment. Once you’ve passed assessment, we’llinvite you to attend a 10-week Initial Training Course (ITC) at thePrison, which requires 100% attendance. This consists of 8 weeksclassroom-based training and 2 weeks shadowing to give you a realtaste of life on the job. The ITC provides high quality training,you’ll complete a Diploma in Custodial Care, First Aid and undergoControl and Restraint training. WhySerco?
Meaningful and vitalwork: Prison Officers are key to ensuring thehealth, safety and wellbeing of prisoners, staff, and visitors intheir prisons. More importantly they play a vital role in reducingreoffending rates amongstprisoners. A world ofopportunity: Our prisons hold a huge amount of varietyand opportunity, with Officers being able to progress into OpsManagement or specialist services such as Psychology, Education,Health, or the Animal unit. Greatpeople: Due to the investment in safeguarding andrehabilitation, our prisons are calmer and may be very different towhat you might imagine, but you’ll receive all the training andadvice you need from friendly and supportivecolleagues.
This role is exempt from theRehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, and all offers of employmentare subject to security clearance checks, and satisfactoryemployment references. You’ll be required to provide 5 yearsof employment and education history as part of thesechecks.
