The Role
As a Structures Capability Lead, you will have a role that is out of the ordinary. You’ll act as a key leader for our various engineering and project teams based at our state-of-the-art Aviation Engineering Centre (AEC). The AEC is an industry leader in aircraft modification, test and evaluation, leveraging our extensive accredited Design, Production and Flight Test, CAA Part 21 and MAA DAOS Organisations. This role forms parts of a dedicated team of ‘hands-on’ Capability Leads that own their respective capability and are integral to AEC project delivery, ultimately reporting to the Head of AEC/Design.
We are seeking a talented individual to act as our structures subject matter expert and ensure the AEC Structures Capability is fit for purpose, to support and further develop our highly-publicised engineering portfolios for a range of incredibly exciting projects. Acting as a hands-on Structures Capability Lead, you’ll report to the Head of Design to create a clear plan for the future strategic roadmap, drive continuous improvement in this area and ensure that the AEC fulfils optimum capability performance.
Day-to-day, you will:
* Provide guidance and oversight across the AEC Project Delivery Teams to ensure standards and safe delivery of avionics, communication and aircraft electrical systems are achieved, whilst maintaining cost and schedule constraints.
* Build professional relationships with the Project Management Office (PMO) functions, in particular Project Management and Project Engineering, providing guidance to ensure safe and compliant delivery of Avionic project outputs.
* Form part of a collaborative multi-disciplinary team of Capability Leads to generate bid-winning proposals through an AEC Solution Delivery Plan and successfully deliver a range of challenging, complex and novel projects within the AEC.
* Participate in robust change management throughout the project lifecycle, maintaining compliance with CAA /MAA regulatory obligations.
* Develop internal and external stakeholder and integration partner relationships, focusing on delivery excellence and regulatory compliance in the area of Stress and Structures.
* Collaborate with the Office of Airworthiness in development of local policy, process and method where required.
This role is a full-time position based at our MoD Boscombe Down site in Salisbury with some flexibility for home working available.
Essential Experience of the Structures Capability Lead:
* In-depth knowledge of avionic stress and structures; including aircraft design structural analysis and assessment techniques with significant experience of undertaking the role of Compliance Verification Engineer (CVE) on behalf of an EASA/CAA Part 21.J organisation.
* Demonstrable knowledge and practical experience of assessment methods and software tools supporting structural analysis of metallic and composite structures, changes and repairs.
* Recognised as a subject matter expert in the field of Stress and Structures, Proven leadership of Stress and Structures engineers throughout the project lifecycle, including verification, validation, test and customer acceptance phases of aircraft modification projects.
* Professional communicator with the ability to challenge and table logical and convincing technical arguments in the field of Structures in formal internal, customer and CAA/MAA regulator reviews.
* Proven excellent communication skills with strong problem-solving capability and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
Qualifications for the Structures Capability Lead:
* Relevant degree level qualification or higher, in an appropriate engineering subject coupled with commensurate experience in the field of aircraft stress and structures.
* Demonstrable experience of CAA Part 21.J, route to certification and operating under Flight Test Permit to Fly basis.
* MAA DOAS aviation regulations and certification processes.
