This is an external vacancy and is not employment with East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
5 hours per week term-time and 10 hours per week during school holidays - to be arranged with parent.
Suitable candidate required to support an 11-year-old child. The child has a good sense of humour, is friendly and kind. They enjoy the great outdoors and like to explore, so a trip to the beach looking for fossils or a trip to the farm would be great fun as they love animals, particularly horses and dogs. They enjoy horse riding, which is a relaxing activity, and they also help take care of the horses at the stables.
The child enjoys spending time with people who understand their needs and who are kind and friendly. They can find it upsetting to be around those who get cross easily or shout, as this makes them go into fight or flight mode. They find it supportive when people are calm and talk them through step by step what is happening, having the time and patience to answer their questions. Routines and schedules are helpful to manage their expectations.
They don’t like being let down or unexpected changes and would need support and understanding to help process these changes.
Looking for a support worker who can commit and make plans to support the child with activities they enjoy and accessing the community. Someone who can provide the right level of guidance to keep them safe while encouraging independence, helping them to organize their needs, and learn new skills.
They can find demands difficult to process, and requests should be made in a way that enables them to make decisions and empowers them to choose wisely.
They enjoy spending time out of school taking their dog for a walk, going to the park, or riding their scooter or bike.
Children and Young People, Specialist Services Direct Payments is an in-house service provided by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council to support families of Children and Young People with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities to fulfill their potential and aspirations.
While caring experience is useful, you don’t necessarily need to have worked in care to be a great Direct Payment Worker; the right attitude and a person-centred approach are more important.
