Position Overview
The University of Bath Access and Participation Impact team is seeking a Research Assistant to support the development of our Access and Participation Plan research and evaluation strategy and help conduct evaluative research for individual projects, particularly utilizing quantitative research designs.
The role will suit someone with well-developed quantitative research skills, excellent communication and writing abilities, and a can-do attitude. The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator with a flexible, collaborative mindset.
Main Responsibilities
* Conduct relevant cleaning, formatting, and coding of datasets ahead of determining relevant analysis processes.
* Conduct individual or collaborative data collection (e.g., questionnaires, internal University of Bath datasets, etc.).
* Use initiative and creativity to analyze and interpret research data and draw appropriate conclusions.
* Document research protocols, create guidance, and draft research reports for review.
* Contribute to research project design, fieldwork, and data collection.
* Contribute to the research program, working to agreed objectives while ensuring the effective use of resources.
* Conduct literature reviews and write up findings into an appropriate report format.
* Address problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and work with a range of stakeholders to progress each project.
* Present information on research progress and outcomes to stakeholders within the project.
* Work independently and as part of a team, coordinating own work with that of others.
* Manage competing priorities and work to deadlines.
* Demonstrate an interest in social inequality and educational opportunities for all.
* Exhibit excellent administrative and time management skills.
* Have experience with research project design, documenting and maintaining data, and a good understanding of data confidentiality and protection policies and guidance.
* Experience in organizing and facilitating focus groups and/or interviews.
* Ability to work unsupervised and prioritize with a willingness to accept responsibility for workload and meet deadlines.
* Be a postgraduate at The University of Bath, ideally studying for a PhD, with at least two years of experience in research.
* A particular focus on quantitative methods is essential, with appropriate experience of different statistical research methods.
Desirable Factors
* Experience of ethical approval processes and willingness to support the submission of future ethics applications.
* Experience of qualitative and/or mixed methods research designs.
Location of Role
Bath and online (must be within travelling distance to Bath for ad-hoc in-person meetings).
