Due to continued investment, this global business is currently looking for a Principal Engineer - Systems & Transversal, to join their existing team in Plymouth (mostly working from home, onsite once a quarter) on a 12 month contract. The Role In order to deliver the MoD's submarine and warship support requirements, a significant programme of infrastructure investment is required at Devonport. The 'Major Infrastructure Projects' (MIP) Business Unit was established to deliver this. This post is for part of the team delivering updates to existing design substantiation dating back many years, as well as drawing together substantiation for the new infrastructure. As a Principal Engineer - Systems & Transversal, your responsibilities will include the following but not limited to: Provision of delivery of Design Substantiation Reports (DSR) updates through the application of process, domain knowledge and experience. Carry out analysis of existing concrete structures to ensure that they continue to meet specified safety functional requirements. Provide Subject Matter Expert advice on civil/structural engineering matters. In addition, you will also liaise as necessary with other design teams and the project's nuclear safety team and ensure that the processes and activities being managed are appropriately documented with appropriate records maintained and configuration and quality controls applied. You To succeed within the role of a Principal Engineer - Systems & Transversal, you'll have experience in a similar position and have the following skills: Good understanding of modern analysis techniques for concrete nuclear structures, ideally using finite element analysis. Understanding of multi-disciplinary engineering activities through design, implementation and operation and with a core focus on safety. Understanding of the UK laws and regulations pertaining to Nuclear Licenced Sites. Clear understanding of how nuclear safety cases are developed and the role of the designer in this process. Working knowledge of the international codes and standards pertinent to the design of nuclear structures. Knowledge of construction criteria necessary for nuclear facilities. Strong technical authorship skills, ideally relating to the development and presentation of design substantiation. Sound understanding of engineering design and safety practice as relevant to discipline, post and project requirements Please note that due to security nature of this role, offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining SC security clearance. The vetting process is delivered by United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) and will require candidates to provide proof of residency in the UK of 5 years or longer.
