Reporting to the Financial Crime Manager, you’ll manage identified risks to the business in relation to financial crime across new business and collections departments. Primarily, you will use your investigative skills to detect, prevent and investigate cases of fraud and suspected money laundering, to reduce risk, loss to the firm and meet regulatory obligations. As a strong communicator, you will work to reduce application fraud, credit abuse, post-live fraud and suspicious transactions, whilst minimising negative impact to the customer. You will need to work collaboratively with both the New Business and Collections functions to identify risk areas, investigate escalated cases, and produce investigation reports. Responsibilities Fraud Maintain a daily log of all Cifas investigations and decisions. Investigating potential fraudulent applications and agreements to prevent any detriment to the business in accordance with the compliance Cifas procedures. Investigate high-risk applications and agreements referred manually by underwriters or other departments within the business. Perform credit and fraud checks. Carry out customer job checks when required. Make direct contact with customers through phone, email, and letters when necessary. Conduct professional interviews with the customers to gather information for ongoing financial crime investigations. Liaising with external organisations and Cifas members. Spot and analyse patterns or trends in fraudulent applications, and feedback to Financial Crime Manager ideas to improve fraud prevention strategy. Create case investigation reports ready for audit, and file confirmed fraud in the FND fraud database. Carry out thorough investigations on potential fraud/financial crime cases on a day-to-day basis and advise on the best course of action. Proactively detect fraud early to reduce losses whilst minimising impact on our genuine customers. Manage relationships with external partners such as fraud prevention agencies and engage with law enforcement and finance industry peers in a collaborative approach to combatting mutual fraud. Determine the root cause of fraud, recommend appropriate preventative measures and report the finding to the financial crime manager to work on implementation. Embed positive changes to processes and procedures and support staff to adapt to them. Utilise your knowledge to provide education to colleagues on fraud related issues. Be actively involved with second line monitoring and work with our Compliance and People and Culture teams on feedback. Administration duties of monitoring, reviewing and actioning fraud alerts. Maintain awareness of fraud trends. Money Laundering Reviewing potential money laundering referrals - Internal SARs. Undertaking daily transactional monitoring to quickly identify possible cases. Writing clear and concise case notes detailing the investigation, findings and conclusion; including the rationale for further escalation or case closure. Draft accurate and detailed Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) to be submitted to the National Crime Agency (NCA). Effectively handle sensitive and difficult conversations with customers while ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. Conducting Enhanced Due Diligence including identity checks, source of funds and source of wealth. Screening for Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs). Screening for Sanctions and SIPS (Special Interest Persons). Assisting the MLRO and Financial Crime Manager in ensuring that AML controls are adhered to within the business. About Billing Finance.
